In 2025, Intertek CEA launched the solar industry’s first independent PV Module Recycling Verification programme, setting a new benchmark for transparency and accountability.

The programme enables recyclers, developers and asset owners to demonstrate credible environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) performance through third-party verification of material recovery, waste diversion and carbon savings. Our methodology aligns with leading global frameworks, including R2v3 Appendix G, UL 3600, ISO 14001 and WEEE EN 50625-2-4, ensuring consistent evaluation of recyclers’ mass balance systems and data integrity.

Collaborating closely with developers, asset owners and recycling partners, our team conducts PV recycling facility audits, environmental and greenhouse gas assessments and mass balance traceability verifications to confirm that end-of-life PV modules are responsibly processed and materials re-enter the value chain. These independent audits establish a scalable benchmark for accountability, transparency and excellence in solar recycling. Each facility that successfully completes its annual verification receives a tiered performance rating and an accompanying Intertek CEA Verification Mark.

OnePlanet Solar Recycling, an end-of-life PV recycler, was the first PV recycling facility in the U.S. to undergo an independent third-party verification process for its rigorous traceability standards. The assessment demonstrated that verifiable mass balance tracking and end-to-end chain of custody are essential for building customer trust and ensuring material integrity.
