Social impact meets environmental care

Textile waste is a growing global problem, with an estimated 92 million tonnes produced every year and clothing production roughly doubling since the year 2000.

As one of the world's largest textile producers and exporters, India generates a significant portion of that waste at nearly 7.8 million tonnes — most of which ends up in landfills.

To address their own contributions and promote a circular economy mindset, our Intertek India colleagues ran a large-scale clothes drive across our major locations in the run up to World Environment Day 2026.

In total, 1,371 items of clothing were collected from our sites in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Tirupur, Hyderabad and Chennai. All items are being distributed to communities in need and anything that can't be donated in its current condition will be upcycled rather than discarded.
